About us

Who are we?

Bread and Roses NSW are a multi-tendency caucus within the NSW Socialists. We are place for unaligned and minority tendency socialists, committed to building a broad left party, to organise and socialise.

What do we stand for?

We believe the party should foster a culture of camaraderie and internal democracy, while maximising opportunities for member participation. We support a broad range of tactics to organise and expand the party’s membership and reach.

Who can join?

All members of NSW Socialists are eligible to join the Bread and Roses Caucus.

Our Core Principles

Political unity in action

Caucus members publicly support and campaign for NSW Socialists’ official positions, resolutions, and candidates in all public forums and activities. Once decisions are made at conference, branch, or committee level, caucus members are expected to implement them. The caucus must not act as a separate bloc to undermine or abstain from executing decisions, except in exceptional circumstances determined by a full member vote requiring a two-thirds majority.

Internal democracy

All members have the freedom to discuss and debate policy within meetings, bulletins, and forums prior to any vote being taken by NSW Socialists.

Organising and Community building

The party should actively engage in organising workers and communities. Socialism is built through both electoral work and grassroots organising.

Equality and respect

The party opposes racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, and ableism, and does so in a non-sectarian manner.

Raising political consciousness through engagement

The party should deepen members’ political understanding and involvement not by erecting barriers to participation, but by engaging members in meaningful political work.
