Battle of Algiers Film Screening – May 23rd

May 23 @ 5:00 pm8:00 pm
Screening at the Humanist House in Chippendale. Paratrooper commander Colonel Mathieu, a former French Resistance fighter during World War II, is sent to Algeria to reinforce efforts to squelch the uprisings of the Algerian War. There he faces Ali la Pointe, a former petty criminal who, as the leader of the Algerian Front de Liberation Nationale, directs terror strategies against the colonial French government occupation. As each side resorts to ever-increasing brutality, no violent act is too unthinkable.
Film screening taking place at the Humanist House in Chippendale. Revolution is the only lawful, equal, effectual war. It was in Russia that this war was declared and begun. Battleship Potemkin is a dramatized account of a great Russian naval mutiny. As the public demonstrates in support of the mutiny, the Tsarist police bring on their onslaught… only to be met by the might of the people. Join us for this classic Soviet film, directed by visionary Sergei Eisenstein. Link to register is here: https://events.humanitix.com/battleship-potemkin-film-screening-discussion
